Join us in Celebrating 28 Years of The Wall Las Memorias: Providing Sex-Ed for Social Change

The Wall Las Memorias (TWLM) is a community health and wellness organization dedicated to serving Latino, LGBTQ+ and other under-served populations through advocacy and education while building the next generation of leadership. More Than Sex-Ed (MTSE) is so happy to be developing new connections with the TWLM team. The important work they have been doing for nearly three decades aligns with our MTSE mission so well, and we are delighted to be participating in the Rooted and Rising Community Youth Fair on May 14, 2022, at 2 PM hosted by TWLM At Plaza de La Raza in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles. This event will focus on providing adolescents with FREE health services and workshops, as well as raising awareness and community support for young advocates, substance use prevention, and LGBTQ+ youth and their families. We hope to see you there!

The Wall Las Memorias serves low-income and hard-to-reach communities throughout Los Angeles by educating community members on the importance of HIV and AIDS awareness, substance abuse prevention, mental health stigma reduction for LGBTQI2-S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Two-Spirit) transitional-aged youth (TAY), transgender women health and wellness, non-binary health and wellness, and community building in the marginalized communities. For more than 28 years, the organization has helped eradicate stigma and bigotry, and created a safer place in our communities for dialogue, community building, education and prevention services for the devastating AIDS epidemic using its AIDS Monument as a catalyst for social change.

The Wall Las Memorias has made it their mission to provide access to specialized services designed to prevent disease and to promote societal wellness; guarantee that individual voices of the community are heard and that all are in agreement on the essential need for social change; promote the use of The Wall Las Memorias AIDS Monument as an acknowledged catalyst for change and action; and engage the LGBTQ+ and faith communities, making both entities full partners in promoting wellness and eliminating stigma among all people.

The Wall Las Memorias offers specialized programs for youth that center on promoting societal wellness and creating a safe space for our LGBTQ+ youth. Beyond Safe Spaces is a multi-pronged program that provides a wrap-around approach to promoting health for LGBTQI2-S youth with peer-to-peer support groups, parents and caregivers support groups, and toolkit trainings for youth serving organizations. Peer-to-Peer support groups focus on building community and learning skills for personal and community growth. Family and Caregiver Support groups include a knowledge-building program and support group for parents, family members, and caregivers of LGBTQI2-S loved ones who need support. Lastly, the toolkit training provides free training for service providers and community-based organizations on how to foster safe and welcoming environments for LGBTQI2-S communities. Along with Beyond Safe Spaces, The Wall Las Memorias offers programs like the TAY Action Team and Rise Up and Act which focus on community development and leadership by uplifting our youth.

The Wall Las Memorias will be hosting its first Rooted and Rising Community Youth Fair on May, 14th, 2022, at 2 PM hosted at Plaza de La Raza in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles. The Wall Las Memorias invites you to come cultivate a safe space for all youth and family to nurture and nourish in community.
