We're Back! Live & In Person!
/October marked the return of More Than Sex-Ed’s facilitators to in-person classes with students, and we couldn’t be happier! The schools we taught at over the last few weeks were the most wonderfully gracious hosts, and the energy of a “live audience” of students is positively electric.
One of the highlights of being on campus is running into students from previous years, and the Pasadena Waldorf High School students made our day when a group of them saw us walking into the main office, and one announced to her friends, “Those are the sex-ed people!” Yep, that’s us, we’re back, and it’s great to see you too.
Of course we’re all still adjusting to a new normal, and if “adjusting” is too mild a word, “traumatized” probably isn’t. Students of all ages have different emotional and intellectual needs now than they did two years ago. The hunger for attention and validation coming from some kids is so strong. For others, the attraction of socializing with peers again can almost feel like it’s making the teacher invisible, or muted. That’s okay; we all spend our whole lives learning how to relate to others, and whispered jokes between desks in a sex-ed class is a time-honored bonding ritual that we’re glad to see students getting to experience again.
Now if I can just have everyone’s attention so we can move on . . .
